Highway infrastructure

The M5 and M6 motorways provide short travel times to the country’s key locations and cities.

Recent road improvement schemes have helped to improve our strong transport links with journey times reducing and enhancements being made to key routes.

The Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is working to allocate over £18m of funds for transport schemes. This will see improvements to the M5 and M6 motorways as well as other key routes across the region.

Rail infrastructure

Stations based in and near to Dudley borough offer direct trains to London, Birmingham, Solihull, Stratford and Worcester as well as connecting services to Manchester and other key cities.

High Speed Rail (HS2) is projected to bring an estimated £1.5bn and 22,000 jobs to the region. Proposals for the project include a new station called Birmingham Interchange, which would connect to both the airport and the nearby National Exhibition centre.

The West Midlands region has 20 freight terminals and handles significant freight flows. Recent developments include the Telford International Railfreight Park and a £2.7m project to link Birmingham International Freight Terminal to the network.

Air infrastructure

Birmingham International Airport is a 30-minute drive from Dudley borough. It serves nine million passengers each year and schedules flights to over 100 domestic and international destinations and is currently expanding its runway to build on this.
