Diversity

Dudley borough has an impressive and diverse business base. Our businesses are operating globally with local companies securing prestigious accolades such as the Queen’s Award for Enterprises and being the Sunday Times Top 100 fastest growing companies for international sales.

Many of our businesses are small and medium sized but we also have a number of large-scale employers including Sandvik, Rentokil and London & Cambridge Properties.

Manufacturing

We have a strong manufacturing sector providing 16,000 jobs and in Dudley.  There are 90,000 jobs in high value manufacturing in the wider Black Country. Dudley borough’s manufacturing sector employs 15% of its workforce, higher than the national average of 9%.

Service sector

Our service sector is very strong with financial services, distribution, retail and leisure playing a significant role. The visitor economy continues to grow, is worth around £225m and attracts over four million visitors every year.

New business

Almost 900 new businesses started in Dudley borough in 2012, that’s the highest number in the Black Country, and new business here is thriving well above national and regional averages.

A third of Dudley borough’s businesses are either in the process of or are looking to expand here.
